Coping with the heat
I find myself adapting a grammar rule I learned in Junior High School re: the use of commas, to dealing with the current heat wave we’re experiencing here in San Antonio: “When in doubt, don’t.”
As it applies to grammar, the rule cautions against the overuse of the comma in one’s writing. If the writer isn’t sure a comma should be used in a particular situation, it probably shouldn’t be.
As it applies to coping with this heat, it applies to decisions about leaving the comfort of my air conditioned joint to venture outside. If I really don’t have to go out, especially in the afternoon and early evening hours, I should stay home where it’s cool and comfortable.
